Air Moldova was created on the 12th of January 1993, and from the very beginning modernised its work practices and increased its international standing in the aviation industry.
Air Moldova has always been the mainstay of Moldovan Civil Aviation. Its global view and outlook, together with a consistent search for improvement, has given a steady and positive progression over the years.
On the 19th of September 2004, Moldovan Civil Aviation celebrated its 60th anniversary. During the post war years, its fleet of 17 aircraft consisted of 15 PO-2 and 2 LI-2's.
In its first year of operation, regular flights were started to five regions within the republic, namely Tiraspol, Balti, Soroca, Lipcani and Orhei.
After almost 20 years, the first TU-134, AN-24 and cargo AN-26's arrived at Chisinau airport. This gave the opportunity for Moldovan aviation to expand its services to the major cities in the U.S.S.R, offering comfort and increased safety to the travelling public.
The number of passengers and the volume of cargo increased considerably, and together with the opening of a new air terminal on the 12th of October 1974, inaugurated a new era of Moldovan civil aviation.
